The following are eight common tricks of pickpockets concluded by some of the experienced squad members:
- Pickpocketing at a bus station: Thieves often work in groups, and while one is distracting the targeted passenger by asking directions, another is stealing something from the victim with a newspaper covering his hand.
- Unzipping bags on a bus: This kind of case usually involves a female accomplice. The male thief stands beside the targeted passenger and draws his attention with an interesting newspaper. At the same time, the female accomplice, who usually looks unsuspected, will unzip the handbag of the victim and remove the valuables from it and pass them on to her member, and then get off the bus at the next stop.
- Pickpocketing of sleeping passengers: The pickpocket always targets passengers who doze off. He will pretend to send text messages with a hand hidden behind and get the other hand as close to the victim’s pocket as possible.
- Ripping a pocket on a bus: The thief, sitting behind the passenger, rips the victim’s pocket with a bag in the other hand covering the blade when he is off guard.
- Bus door pickpocket: When the passengers are getting on or off the bus, thieves crowd in and steal something in the confusion of the moment.
- Bus door mobile phone stealing: The same as “bus door pickpocket”, thieves steal mobile phones when victims hurry to get on or off.
- Station tweezers pickpocket: Pickpockets work in a team of two or three. One of them steals with the tweezers while other members are blocking the victim’s view.
- Adjacent seat mobile stealing: The thief, sitting beside the passenger, picks the mobile phone from the victim’s pocket with a bag covering his hand.
