Guest Account Cannot Access the Internet on a Dial Up Connection

Guest Account Cannot Access the Internet on a Dial Up Connection

For users who use the Guest account: After applying this Registry edit, if you use Fast User Switching, you can log on to an account (Limited or Administrator) and establish a Dialup Networking Connection. After the connection is established, you can use Fast User Switching to "switch" to the Guest account and the Guest account will have Internet Access.

To work around this behavior, you need to add the KeepRASConnections value to the Registry.

1. Start the Registry Editor by clicking Start, Run and entering REGEDIT.EXE. Click OK.
2. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch and locate the Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon sub-branch.
3. Right click on a blank area of the right pane and select New, String value.
4. Name the new string value: KeepRASConnections
5. Double click the KeepRASConnections value and enter a “1”, without the quotes, for the value data. Click OK.
6. Close the Registry Editor by clicking File, Exit
7. Close all applications and reboot the computer.
8. When the computer has rebooted, log on to a Regular or Administrator User account and establish the Dialup Networking
Connection.
