Change the Default Action for Script Files. Normally scripting files are run when double clicked, once applied this
tweak will cause them to be shown in Notepad instead. This is useful to avoid accidental execution especially with the prevalence of script based viruses.
Open your registry (Start/Run/Regedit) and for each key below change the value of "(Default)" to equal "Edit". This will change the default action so that the script will be loaded in Notepad.exe (or another specified text editor).

Open Notepad and type: .LOG and then hit enter. Close, re-open. Anything you add from that point on with have the date and time it was amended.
Notepad Word Wrap
Notepad has an option in it that allows you to have words wrap to the next line if you begin typing too far over. One little quirk is that when you're printing, regardless of the word wrap setting, Windows and the printer will automatically wrap printed text for you based on the margins of the printer. You can change these margins, if necessary, from the Page Setup menu located within the File menu of Notepad.
Notification Area - Hide Icons
Windows XP provides a number of options for customizing what Microsoft has decided to call the "Notification Area" of your Taskbar (the area that displays the clock and a number of icons). By default, Windows XP hides any inactive icons here. But if you prefer, you can choose to hide (or show) individual icons all the time.
For example, suppose you want to keep the Volume and Synchronization Manager icons out of site, regardless of how often you use them. Right click a blank area of the Taskbar and select Properties. Under Notification area, click Customize. Alternatively, Right click a blank area of the Notifications Area and select Customize Notifications.
One at a time, select the Volume and Synchronization Manager icons, then Right click the down arrow next to it and select Always hide (in the same way, you could select any icon and choose the "Always show" option). Click OK twice, and now, an arrow appears on the edge of the Notifications Area. Click it to display the hidden icons.
Notification Area - Hidden Chevron Missing
For some users setting the very first icon to Always Hide, restores the arrow. This behavior seems to come into effect when one uses an icon on the System Tray. Also be certain that the "behavior" of each of each icon is what you want it to be. Right-click each, to make changes.
